Active Transportation

Safe Communities Port Colborne is pursuing interest in the Active Transportation movement! Active Transportation refers to any form of human-powered transportation, such as walking, running, cycling, using a wheelchair, pushing a stroller, and roller blading, to travel to and from school, work, errands, and so on. There are numerous benefits to creating a culture of Active Transportation, including improved safety, health and quality of life, less environmental harm, and enhanced social connections and capacity.  Check out this link for more information on the Active Transportation Movement: www.cflri.ca/eng/active_transportation/

We are planning an Active Transportation workshop this fall and need your help to assist with gathering local data.  The date for the Port Colborne Active Transportation Workshop is Tuesday, October 6th, 2009 - check out our flyer or look under events to find out more details. ICanWalk is a survey tool which can be completed by residents to provide input on the walkability of the community. Communities throughout Niagara have been using this tool for awhile now and some of you may have already completed the survey. We would like to get as many Port Colborne-specific responses as possible to provide a rich snapshot of walking areas and issues of concern for our residents. Please click on the 'ICanWalk' link above and complete the short survey.
